Advanced Ceramics Company Served as SOFC Contractor to Rolls Royce

BTU International Inc (North Billerica, MA, USA), a leading supplier of advanced thermal processing equipment for PCB assembly, semiconductor packaging and the manufacture of advanced ceramics, served as Rolls Royce's primary contractor for the building of the world's first automated solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) production line.

This turnkey pilot production line, located in Loughborough, Leics, England, incorporates a number of BTU products, including multiple BTU convection drying systems and BTU's latest elevator hearth system for high temperature sintering. The equipment provided by the company also includes multiple screen printing systems, a laser marking system and automated handling equipment to fully automate the process.

The state-of-the-art Rolls Royce facility will have the capability to produce over 1,000 ceramic fuel cell components per week, while verifying the processes required for eventual full-scale production. It is operated by Rolls Royce Fuel Cell Systems Ltd.
