Portmeirion Celebrates Excellence in Business with Platinum Award

Portmeirion Potteries Ltd (Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, England) is the first company to be awarded the Stoke-on-Trent City Council's coveted 'Better Health Better Business' award recognising its strong commitment to safer, fairer, healthier, environmentally friendly workplaces and delivering excellence in customer services.

Portmeirion has been awarded the certificate at platinum level, the highest level possible in the scheme designed to promote excellence in business.

To achieve the platinum award, Portmeirion excelled in all categories which
included: healthier workplaces – from minimising stress to healthy eating; safer workplaces – from security to fire to food; fairer workplaces – including fair trading and complaints resolution; and environmentally friendly workplaces – from recycling to energy saving.

Alan Devine, Human Resource Director at Portmeirion, said: “We are thrilled to be the first company to achieve the Platinum award. It's great that we are being recognised for looking after our staff and customers – and we will make sure that we maintain our standards”.

The award comes after Portmeirion's strong financial performance with a record-breaking set of profit results for 2006 and the 35th anniversary of its most popular pattern Botanic Garden, and is further testament to the company's success.

Peter Devaney, Head of Regulatory Services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council
said: “I am delighted that Portmeirion Potteries has achieved this level of award. It will enable one of our foremost employers to gain true recognition for their excellence”.
