Nano-Fireclay Improved Resin

'China's Refractories' (Luoyang, Henan, PR China) has reported that a type of nano fireclay improved phenol-formaldehyde binder has been obtained through in situ layer-inserting compounding and the introduction of a laminated clay during the condensation reaction between phenol and formaldehyde.

This nano clay improved resin has been used as a binder for ramming mixes for blast furnace troughs, showing excellent performance such as high strength, erosion resistance, consistent performance and long life.

Comparison of the properties of the improved resin bonded and common resin bonded ramming mixes showed that the cold crushing strength and hot bending strength of the ramming mix with nano clay improved resin as binder was 59.0 MPa and 11.63 MPa respectively, whereas the common resin bonded mix gave results of 30.0 MPa and 8.55 MPa respectively.
