Burton College Students Produce Mug Designs

Three students from Burton College (Burton-on-Trent, Staffs, England) have produced designs for leading ceramics company Dunoon Ceramics. Ruth Etty from Woodville and Laura Deaville from Stoke-on-Trent - both Higher National Diploma (HND) Textiles students - joined freelance designer Sarah Mercer, who is also studying at the college, in coming up with designs to be used on a new range of stacker mugs.

Commenting on the project, Burton College Lecturer Emma Mercer said: "It is always great experience to have the opportunity to be able to work on a real live design brief and the students must be congratulated on the standard and variety of ideas they have developed. The project really showcased the range of design talents they all possess, and the fact that a leading ceramic company are actually using the designs for their new mug range is testament to this."

These views were echoed by Sarah Mercer, who added: "As a freelance designer I have worked for Dunoon Ceramics before so it was great to work with fellow students on this project. The company have been very impressed with the designs, which have a natural theme to tie in with the company's style of work.

Burton College runs a variety of courses for those interested in pursuing a career in ceramics, art & design, fashion and textiles.
