20th World Mining Congress

The 20th World Mining Congress will take place in Tehran, Iran from 7-11 November 2005. The event was last held in 2003 in New Delhi, India. This congress, which started out in 1958, pursues the goal of promoting scientific and technical cooperation and international exchange of knowledge in the mining industry and is the world's largest forum for the international mining industry.

At this year's event, 430 speakers from 32 countries will be talking about current themes in the sector. Up to 6,000 experts from over 50 countries are expected to attend. The venue is the Iranian National Congress Centre.

Alongside the congress will be the World Mining Expo 2005, sited on the adjacent Tehran Permanent Fairgrounds, which will showcase the latest technology in machinery and equipment for the mining industry. All the leading suppliers from 17 countries are expected to take part and Canada, Chile, China, Germany, India, Poland, Russia and South Africa are planning national pavilions.

The range featured at the expo spans equipment, technology and services for the acquisition, processing and storage of raw materials and semi-finished products. Additionally there will be conveying systems, the latest developments in recycling technology, waste disposal, water treatment, air purification, decontamination and cleansing of industrial sites, solutions for environmental problems, monitoring of work processes, storage, storage controls, security and safety at work, the latest developments in protective clothing, breathing equipment, safety belts, warning systems, software and associated services, and further developments in power generation technology.

The World Mining Expo 2005 is being organised and run by IMAG, the international arm of Messe Muenchen Group (Munich, Germany).
