Mexican Tilemaker Posts Big Sales Increases

The second quarter 2004 at Interceramic (Chihuahua, Mexico) saw it posting significant improvements over second quarter results in 2003 and marking gains over a lacklustre first quarter 2004 as well. Record quarterly sales of US$84.8 million topped sales of US$72.2 million in Q2 2003 by 17.5%. Larger sales volume and a better mix of products sold pushed gross income for the quarter up by 23.3% over last year.

For the first six months of the year, consolidated sales were up by 10.3% to US$161.3 million compared to US$146.3 million last time. Interceramic also moved much more product in Q2 2004 than Q2 2003, increasing by 15%. The company said that in a particularly welcome development, growth in both sales and product volume occurred in each of its major markets of Mexico and the USA.

In Mexico, Q2 sales jumped by 22.3% from US$37.9 million to US$46.3 million, while for the first six months sales were up 10.6%, from US$79.9 million to US$88.3 million.

In international markets, the company hit a record level of sales and at US$38.4 million, managed to better sales for Q2 2003 by 12.2%. For the first six months, international sales were ahead 9.9% at US$73 million.
