Grant Secures Fritsch's 'Leaning Towers'

A grant of 4,395 (total cost 12,420) has been awarded by the National Art Collections Fund to the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales towards the purchase of two vessels by the contemporary ceramic artist, Elizabeth Fritsch.

Created from coil-built stoneware smoothed and refined into geometric forms with a strong sculptural quality, they demonstrate her preference for showing work in groups. One has been decorated in electric blue and deep black and the other in sharp white, both colours being unusual for ceramics. The vessels were made in 2002.

Elizabeth Fritsch is one of the outstanding women artists who emerged from the Royal College of Art in the 1970s and is a leading figure in ceramics. The works are now on display at the University of Wales.

The National Art Collections Fund is the UK's leading art charity. It has 80,000 members. Since its foundation in 1903, it has helped UK public collections acquire 750,000 works of art.
