Sacmi to Acquire Laeis Bucher

Bucher Industries AG (Niederweningen, Switzerland) and Sacmi Imola Scrl (Imola, BO, Italy) have signed a letter of intent which will see Sacmi Group acquire a 100% interest in Laeis Bucher Technology GmbH (Trier, Germany). The two parties said that, with its leading position in the ceramic industry, Sacmi was the ideal strategic partner to further expand the business of Laeis Bucher.

Laeis Bucher is well known as a leading supplier of hydraulic presses, kilns and complete plants for the refractories sector. In addition, the company produces presses and process technologies for other ceramics (principally tiles) and also for other industrial applications such as carbon-graphite products and cement bonded construction materials.

Bucher and Sacmi said that the takeover would give Sacmi a globally leading position for hydraulic presses for refractories and tiles. Within Sacmi Group, Laeis Bucher is foreseen to become the centre of competence for presses, kilns and complete plants for the refractories sector. Karl Eping will continue to manage the operation of Laeis Bucher.

It is planned to conclude the transaction by the end of the third quarter of 2003 after the negotiations of a final contract and the approval of the respective governmental authorities.
