First PMT-Jetmill Order for Ultra-Fine Minerals in UK

Atritor Ltd (Coventry, England), agent for the Austrian company PMT-Jetmill GmbH, has secured the first order for this advanced air jet mill for a fine minerals application in the UK. The customer expects the PMT-Jetmill SJ50 unit to easily achieve its rigorous particle size specifications, having run exhaustive tests in the test centre in Leoben in Austria. The production scale test unit is said to give absolute confidence in guaranteeing the larger SJ50 for the various products and specifications required.

The order was won against tight competition from major international suppliers and the customer is convinced that the new installation will give it a significant product quality advantage over other available technology. The unit will be commissioned in September 2002.

The SJ50 is a medium scale unit requiring around 3000Nm3/h of hot compressed air at around 10 bar to produce fine minerals with cut points between 3 and 45 microns, at rates typically from 200kg/h to 4,000kg/h. In order to obtain the most economical specific energy outcome, PMT-Jetmill designs each installation to match the customer's choice of compressor, although the Atlas Copco oil-free screw compressor ZR range is recommended to obtain the highest efficiency from the system. PMT-Jetmill has also incorporated an effective system for the continuous rejection of abrasive impurities from the base of the mill body as well as a sample collection point on the top outlet to effect QA monitoring of top cut points.

This air jet mill is said to be particularly effective for the ultra-fine milling of laminar or non-regular crystal filler minerals such as talc, mica, graphite, wollastonite, zeolite, barytes and kaolin, and for low density materials whose classification is problematic on less advanced integral jet mill classifiers.

Atritor - experts in simultaneous drying and de-agglomeration, surface coating, fine milling and classification - represents PMT-Jetmill in both the UK and Ireland and has a comprehensive test facility in Coventry.
