Aluminium China Off to Flying Start

Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH (Duesseldorf, Germany) has reported on the first ALUMINIUM CHINA exhibition. Spread over three days, leading companies in the international aluminium industry presented their goods and services on over 11,500 square metres in the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).

A total of 204 companies from 24 countries took part in the event, including such key players as Alcoa, Dubla and Fata Hunter. The biggest national exhibitor was the leading Chinese aluminium producer CHALCO.

The strongest foreign contingent came from Germany: thirty companies showcased their products to the expanding Asian markets at the show. Besides the German companies represented on their own stands, such as the SMS Group and Corus, 20 further companies made use of the 'Made in Germany' platform for their presentation. This pavilion also featured teams from the ALUMINIUM 2006 world fair and its institutional patron, the GDA (German Aluminium Industry Association).

The first ALUMINIUM CHINA was well received by the visitors. Reed Exhibitions registered 4,878 trade visitors from 24 countries. Reed reported that exhibitors were most satisfied with the calibre of the visitors who came from all segments of the aluminium industry and wide range of application areas.

The event also featured a conference - the China Aluminium Technology, Facility, Application and Sustainable Development International Forum - organised by the China Non-ferrous Metals Industry Association and Antaike Investment & Consulting Co Ltd.

China is the second largest consumer of aluminium in the world after the USA. Just under one-seventh of all aluminium is now used in China. In the near future, the growth in aluminium consumption in China is set to account for over 40% of the global growth in this sector. As a result of the dynamism of this market, this event is now scheduled to be held in Shanghai on an annual basis.
