Industrie Fincuoghi Chooses Sustainable Development

Industrie Fincuoghi, one of Italy’s biggest ceramic tile producers, has confirmed its position at the state of the art not only in the quality of its products but also in its commitment to protecting the environment and achieving sustainable economic growth.

The Sassuolo based group has received ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System certification for its operations involving the development, production and distribution of double-fired and glazed and technical porcelain ceramic floor and wall tiles from the international body DNV. DNV inspected the glaze preparation, glazing, firing, sorting, packaging and shipment processes at the Sassuolo plant, together with the spray drying, pressing, glazing, firing, sorting and packaging operations at the Borgotaro and Bedonia locations.

The award of this certification is particularly important for the Bedonia and Borgotaro plants, since they are in an area famous for its natural beauty and its wealth of fine traditional food products, within the zone of operation of the Parma Ham Certification Consortium. Above all, Borgotaro and the nearby valleys are world famous as one of the main areas for the picking and production of porcini mushrooms, which carry the P.G.I. mark.

Therefore, through its ISO 14001 certification, Industrie Fincuoghi has made an active contribution to safeguarding and promoting the surrounding area and its natural resources, by guaranteeing the sustainability of its industrial operation there. This formal approval by an independent body demonstrates that the company has adopted a system capable of effectively preventing and managing the most significant environmental impacts deriving from the various activities which take place in its plants.

This achievement is a major milestone in the implementation of the company policy that sets the targets for the improvement of its environmental performance and involves commitments for the group in a variety of areas: the reduction of energy and raw material consumption; the management of industrial waste through reduction at source and internal and external recycling; the control of pollutant emissions, with particular reference to airborne dust emissions, effluents and the noise generated by the production processes; the involvement of the workforce in the achievement of environmental targets by means of appropriate training; the consolidation of relationships with the stakeholders (competent authorities, local communities, customers, suppliers, etc), the prevention of accidents; and strict compliance with environmental regulations.
