Dynamet Technology Awarded Three Government Programmes
According to Industrial Heating (www.industrialheating.com), Dynamet Technology Inc (Burlington, MA, USA) has received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR Phase 2) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop 'Innovative Titanium Wear Resistant Composite Materials for Orthopaedic Lumbar Implants'.
The study will use Dynamet's powder metal manufacturing technology and its titanium alloy composite designs. In addition, the Department of the Army has awarded Dynamet an SBIR Phase 2 programme targeting its advanced titanium metal matrix CermeTia composite materials for application to the manufacture of lightweight, wear resistant structural components for armoured vehicles.
Dynamet has also initiated work on the development of a Low Cost Titanium Alloy manufacturing technology programme for the US Department of Energy. The process is projected to provide greater energy efficiency, improved environmental benefits and significant cost saving in the manufacture of titanium alloy components.
