Chinese launch Refractories Events

The China Association of Refractories Industry and The Chinese Society for Metals will jointly host the 3rd International Exhibition on Refractories, Ceramics and Furnaces in Beijing from 24-27 April 2001. This will, say the organisers, be a big event for information, exchange of views and the promotion of technical and commercial cooperation.

Compared with the first two events in the series, this exhibition will have an enlarged scope, especially in ceramics. It will also the cooperation of The Industrial Furnace Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. In conjunction with the exhibition will be held a seminar on refractories technology and markets, entitled China Refractories Seminar 2001 - Technology & Markets.

The co-hosts offer a short appraisal of the industry in PR China: "With a total annual output of refractories over 10 million tons, China has become a large producer and supplier in both refractory raw materials and refractory products. Thanks to the policy of reform and opening up to the outside world, China’s refractories industry enjoys notable progress and a lot of achievements in new and high performance refractories with own characteristics, based on our rich resources of raw materials and with innovations as well as being benefitted greatly from importing advanced technology and equipment from abroad".

"However, in comparison with some developed countries, China still lags behind in respect of variety of structure, durability, quality consistency and specific refractory consumption. Therefore, to further optimise the variety structure, stabilise and improve quality and adopt advanced technology is the major task of the Chinese refractory industry, which should bring about extensive international cooperation opportunities".

"In the last two decades, China’s ceramic industry has made eye-catching progress both in product variety and quantity through introducing world advanced production facilities and technology on a large scale; for instance, having imported over 3000 press machines, 400 roller kilns, 200 polishing production lines during the past decade, and sanitaryware and tableware producing equipment, pertinent raw materials, decoration materials and new production technology as well. China now produces more than 1.8 billion square metres of tiles, 10 billion pieces of tableware and 50 million pieces of sanitaryware per year".
