Advanced Materials & Standards Updates

Some papers and technical working area summaries from the VAMAS Bulletin No 25 will be of interest to various areas of the industry as well as research and scientific personnel.

Dr Martin Rides (National Physical Laboratory) presents the feature article, 'Measurement Needs for Nano-Scale Materials and Devices'. Dr Erich Santner (BAM, Berlin) rounds up what is going on in 'Wear Test Methods'; Dr Cedric Powell (NIST, Gaithersburg, MD, USA) does the same for 'Surface Chemical Analysis'; and similarly Dr Kristin Breder (Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Worcester, MA, USA) for 'Ceramics for Structural Applications'.

Dr Markys Cain (National Physical Laboratory) rounds up activities in another interesting area, 'Performance Related Properties for Electroceramics'. Brief notes on 'Characterization Methods for Ceramic Powders and Green Bodies' come from Dr Rolf Wäsche (BAM, Berlin).

For more on VAMAS (Versailles Project on Advanced Materials and Standards) and the continuing work of its Steering Committee, e-mail the Secretary, Dr Martin Rides at: martin.rides@npl.co.uk
