Training Courses Abroad for Ceramic Industry Technicians

Russia and Iran are the countries that will be hosting the first two technical training courses of 2004 organised by Acimac (Italian Ceramic Plant & Machinery Manufacturers' Association) in cooperation with the Italian Trade Commission ICE. The courses are being held in January and February respectively.

The training course in Moscow is entitled 'The ceramic tile production process: applied technologies and innovative developments' and is being held from 26-30 January 2004. More than 60 technicians from the leading Russian ceramic companies will attend lessons held by Professor Paolo Zannini, lecturer at the University of Modena, and Giuliano Guerrieri. The course will cover all stages of the production process, from raw materials preparation to packaging of the finished tiles.

The last day will be devoted to the workshop, during which nine Italian suppliers will have the opportunity to present their latest technological innovations to the Russian technicians.

The course in Iran, which will be held in Tehran from 16-19 February 2004, will explore the theme of 'New technological developments in the grinding, pressing and tile firing processes'. The course tutors will be Gianfranco Carnevali and Giuliano Guerrieri. The course will likewise finish with a workshop with supplier company presentations.

Acimac said that Russia and Iran were currently two of the strongest foreign markets for Italian ceramic machinery manufacturers. In both countries, the ceramic industry is showing rapid and constant development and the opening of the new factories and expansion of existing facilities is resulting in strong demand for advanced technology.

A total of about 70 million square metres of tiles per year are now produced in Russia, compared to 25 million square metres in 1999. In Iran, production has increased from 60 million square metres in 1999 to 105 million square metres.
