More Ceramic Tile Plants for Vietnam

VNS has reported the setting up of two new ceramic tile manufacturing plants in Vietnam.

Viglacera (The Viet Nam Construction Glass & Ceramics Corporation) has started construction of a cotto ceramic tile factory in Ha Long City, which is in the northern province of Quang Ninh. It will have an annual capacity of 1 million square metres of tile and represents an investment of VND 88.7 billion. The construction of this factory is expected to be completed in August 2002.

Meanwhile, the Thanh Danh Ceramic Tile Company is investing VND 70 billion to build a tile factory in Ho Chi Minh City's Le Minh Xuan Industrial Zone. Construction of the factory begins early this year and is expected to take eight months. Once in operation, the factory will produce 300,000 square metres of ceramic tile per annum, 30% of it destined for export.

Thanh Danh produces several kinds of ceramic tile plus tile and stone tables for both the domestic market and for export. The company's turnover for 2001 is expected to reach a level which is some 10% better than in 2000.
