New info on thermal analysis

A completely new brochure which describes the SETARAM Labsys range of thermal analysis instruments is now available free of charge from Brookhaven International, the UK distributors.

The Labsys range encompasses instruments for thermogravimetric analysis (TGA0, differential thermal analysis (DTA) and also differential scanning calorimetry (DCS) at temperatures all the way from ambient up to 1600°C. Thanks to the modular design, instruments can be configured for either a single technique or for simultaneous thermal analysis, for example, TG-DSC or TG-DTA. There is also a Labsys TMA/dilatometry system for measurement of dimensional changes in a material over the same temperature range.

The emphasis in the Labsys range is said to be on simplicity of operation combined with high performance and versatility. The new SETSOFT 2000 software provides a high degree of automation throughout the operation in whatever mode. Optional facilities include simple and efficient interfacing to a mass spectrometer or FTIR to enable gasses evolved during the measurement to be analysed and identified.

Labsys thermal analysers are designed to meet the need of laboratories in a wide variety of disciplines where high sensitivity and accuracy allied to low cost are prime requirements. Examples include ceramics, advanced materials, polymers and many more.

Applications include measurement of physical properties such as glass transition temperature, purity and melting or crystallisation points, phase transitions and studies of chemical processes such as corrosion, polymerisation, combustion, hydration and general thermal stability. In the field of thermodynamics, applications include determination of heat capacity and thermal expansion coefficients.
