Massive Shipment of Ceramic Machinery Heading for Far East

This month, a ship carrying a total load of 1,730 tons of ceramic machinery manufactured by Sacmi is calling at the ports of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Qingdao. The shipment, arranged by the group's own company Italiansped, is claimed by Sacmi to be probably the biggest ever sea-going consignment of ceramic machinery ever organised.

The shipment includes two PH 1500 and two PH 2890 sets, a PH 3590 set and a PH 4600 set for Hong Kong; a PH 7200 set, three PH 4600 sets and PH 2890 set for Shanghai; and a PH 7200 set, a PH 2090 set, four PH 2890 sets and five PH 3590 sets destined for Qingdao.

Sacmi has also announced that another large consignment is preparing to cast off, this time bound for Mexico. The load is lighter, but nevertheless consists of eight presses, two continuous mills, five discontinuous mills, six dryers, a large-scale spray dryer and two kilns.

Finally, Sacmi has announced changes in its top management. Giulio Cicognani, formerly General Manager of Sacmi Imola, has passed the baton on to Eugenio Emiliani, Manager of the Ceramic & Tiles Division. Mr Cicognani himself has gone on to take up the reins of the entire group by becoming Managing Director of the Holding Hps.

In the light of important expansion projects, this reorganisation was felt essential. Total sales are expected to rise from about 500 million euros to around 1,000 million euros in just a few years. Sacmi has just launched an amicable public purchase offer for Negri Bossi.
