New BSI Standard on Sampling

BSI has announced 'BS 6002-4:2006 Sampling procedures for inspection by variables. Sequential sampling plans indexed by acceptance quality limit
(AQL) for inspection by variables (known standard deviation)'.

Acceptance sampling inspection has the merit of putting the responsibility for quality with the producer. The inspector is no longer regarded as the person who sorts things out. The producer has to see that the quality of the product is right; otherwise there will be problems and expense with unacceptable lots (batches).

Sampling inspection can and should lead to less inspection work, lower cost and good quality for the customer.

This new standard is the latest in the Sampling range from BSI. It provides essential information, an excellent source of reference and is the British Standards' version of ISO 3951-5:2006. It provides a wide range of plans and is only for use in continuing series of lots from the same production run.

The purpose of this standard is the assessment of inspection results that may be used to induce the supplier through the economic and psychological pressure of non-acceptance of lots of inferior quality to supply lots of a quality having a high probability of acceptance.

Price £128 (Member Price £64).
