Royal Worcester Statement on Manufacturing Changes

On 13 January 2005, The Royal Worcester and Spode Group, which has operations in Worcester and Stoke-on-Trent (both England) and in North America, made an official statement with regard to its intention to restructure manufacturing during 2005. The statement said:

"As with the rest of the industry, it (the group) has seen a significant reduction in demand for some of our traditional products. As a result, it is proposing a restructuring of its manufacturing facilities at the Worcester site focussing on the production of ornamental, giftware and prestige ranges, together with continuing its activities of independent product development, design, sales and marketing.

"Of the total workforce at Worcester approximately 130 employees may be affected, which represents 12% of the Group's overall workforce. The Company will now be entering into consultations with employees' representatives regarding the situation. It is hoped to have completed the process by mid 2005.

"The development of its retail shops and visitor facilities on site will continue to be upgraded and invested in to provide a premium attraction for the City of Worcester and continued employment.

"Royal Worcester will continue to invest and supply quality, well designed, branded products to meet the requirements of the market."
