Revestir Exhibition Follows Growth in Brazilian Construction

REVESTIR – Brazilian Coverings Exhibition, will take place from 11-14 March 2008 at Transamérica Expo Center, in São Paulo, Brazil, gathering a full range of coverings and displaying world trends in colours, textures, sizes and technologies of ceramic, mosaics, ceramic tiles, wood laminates, glass products, ornamental stones, cement floorings, wood and wire floors.

“In 2007, Brazil – the world’s tenth economy – had an economic surge leveraged specially by the civil construction industry and the forecast for 2008 is very positive. In this sense, REVESTIR is a milestone for fairs in the sector and will introduce fresh and sophisticated solutions for coverings,” commented Antônio Carlos Kieling, Director Superintendent of ANFACER (Brazilian Association of Ceramic Tile Manufacturers), the exhibition’s sponsor.

After a long period of economic ups and downs, the year 2007 cemented the path towards civil construction growth resumption in Brazil, which is likely to remain at 6% per year. This result is closely connected to the Brazilian government’s Growth Acceleration Program – PAC, which supports civil construction in order to promote Brazil’s growth. The sector benefited greatly from tax reductions and incentives to the housing and infrastructure sectors. As such, in the next four years, the government is supported by an amount of US$260 billion in new investments from the private sector and state-owned companies, besides US$35 billion from the Union Budget.

It is important to point out that the construction sector has kept, for 14 consecutive quarters, positive variations of its product in relation to the previous quarter. Consumption rates in Brazil are also high, with 15 quarters of consecutive increase.

Ranked as the world’s second largest consumer, the third largest producer and the fourth largest exporter, Brazil is a key player in the ceramic tile industry for coverings world-wide. Brazil accounts for 16% of all imports into the USA (largest world importer); nonetheless it still exports to 130 countries. In 2007, Brazilian total sales recorded a 6.37% increase. For 2008, the projections made are also optimistic, indicating a 7% rise. In 2007, the productive capacity went up 3.51% and in 2008 an estimated growth of 4% is expected.

In addition to opening up the construction industry fair agenda in Latin America, REVESTIR is the chief event on coverings in the region and it is the only one exclusively geared to finishings. Attendance is roughly estimated at 32,000 visitors and the amount of business deals forecast is of the order of US$130 million – in 2007 it generated US$120 million.
