INTERMAQUINA Set for Oporto

EXPONOR has confirmed that the second staging of INTERMAQUINA - the Fair for Machinery & Equipment for the Ornamental Stones, Ceramics and Glass Industries - will take place in Oporto, Portugal from 13-16 March 2003.

The exhibition will run at the same time as SUBCONTRATA, INTERGAS, CLIMAT and the 2nd Science, Technology and Innovation Fair, so as to make the most of the synergies between these sectors and their fairs.

Regarding the sector covered by INTERMAQUINA, EXPONOR estimates that some 1,170 companies in Portugal are involved, employing 38,400 workers. Out of the country's manufacturing industry total, this sector accounts for 3.8% of GVA, 2.5% of Gross Production Value, 3.3% of employment volume and 2.8% of total exports.

The main production clusters are to be found in the districts of Aveiro, Leiria, Santarém and Coimbra.

The Portuguese ceramic industry is now thought to contribute towards the trade balance with a foreign trade surplus of around 300 million euro.
