New Software Rapidly Produces Focussed Images of 3D Samples

Syncroscopy (Cambridge, England) - a division of Synoptics Ltd - launched on 16 January 2002 its new Auto-Montage Version 4 software, designed to help microscope users obtain perfectly focussed images of three-dimensional samples in seconds.

The software is said to create perfectly focussed images of subjects at any magnification, regardless of the depth of focus of the optics. This is achieved by capturing a series of partially focussed images which are then automatically analysed to produce an infinite depth of focus image and a valuable depth map.

The new software version introduces a range of powerful algorithms that are claimed to take the quality of the montage image to new heights as well as providing huge advances in the efficiency of the processing. For example, quotes Syncroscopy, the software can process 200Mb of image data to produce perfectly focussed images in less than 10 seconds.

In addition, the company has built in a preview function that allows users to save even more time by seeing which of the software's Montaging Methods is the most appropriate for their sample, before committing to a final processing step.
