New Global Appointment at Morgan Advanced Ceramics

Dr Michael Murray, a leading expert on bio-ceramics, is to become Global Technical Manager of Morgan Advanced Ceramics in February 2002 upon the retirement of Dave Carter.

In his new role, Michael will be responsible for technical and material activities, and new product development, across eight operating companies and 15 manufacturing sites world-wide.

He was previously UK technical manager of the company's sites at Stourport-on Severn in Worcestershire and Rugby in Warwickshire.

Before that, he was business leader of bio-ceramic products, responsible for the development of implant components including femoral heads, acetabular cups, shoulders and finger prostheses. Biograde alumina and zirconia ceramics were developed during this period to satisfy both the design requirements and material flexibility vital to implant surgery.

Michael has been involved in three European Commission projects for ceramic devices, including knee components, spinal fusion devices and femoral head test procedures. He is currently nearing completion of a DTI/Link project on an improved zirconia material for implant applications. Additional research has been dedicated to the development of a new ceramic-to-ceramic bearing for hip joint replacements.
