Masonry Gets International Billing

The British Masonry Society changed its name to the International Masonry Society on 1 January 2008. The new name reflects the international standing of the 21 year-old society which has members throughout the world and from all professions and activities associated with masonry construction.

Cliff Fudge, current Society President and Technical Director of H+H UK, welcomed the change of name and the increased opportunities it will provide within the masonry industry. “The Society provides a forum for learned discussions and disseminates research information relating to all aspects of masonry in construction,” he said. “It provides focus for all those involved in or interested in masonry as a material and as a construction system. The formation of the International Masonry Society opens the door for the formation of regional branches, and will enable all those with an interest in brickwork and blockwork to communicate and disseminate information more freely.”

The society website provides members with a wide range of published papers and research as well as indicating where to find further information on masonry design, including the new Eurocodes. The Society also publishes a magazine, ‘Masonry International’, containing papers describing original experimental and analytical research, together with reviews, practical papers and case studies.
