Customers Seeing Green with Marley Eternit

Roofing manufacturers should be giving customers more online information about environmental standards and accreditations, claims Marley Eternit.

In response to this, the company is the first manufacturer in the roofing industry to launch an environmental microsite helping specifiers to gain some clarity about the mounting interest in companies’ environmental credentials.

The leading roofing manufacturer is proving to be a forerunner in the use of its existing website to showcase the company’s commitment to sustainable building products. It details Marley Eternit’s approach to environmentally-responsible manufacturing as well as the company’s full sustainability policy.

The microsite is geared to assist specifiers and builders by making it easy to highlight and encourage the use of materials with the lowest environmental impact. It also provides information to help users understand Eco-points and there is an interactive breakdown of the environmental impact of materials. By taking this proactive approach to environmental education, Marley Eternit is demonstrating its responsibility to the industry and to its consumers.

Marley Eternit has made essential information, such as its management systems certificates including; ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001 and sustainability policy, available for download.

By showcasing the company’s commitment to the environment and making readily available its practices towards sustainability for all to see, it is clear that Marley Eternit has positioned itself as a market leader.

Sarah Hanlon, marketing manager at Marley Eternit explains:

“When looking at building materials, it is essential to take into consideration the supplier’s environmental credentials. This microsite showcases the areas of the Marley Eternit’s knowledge and expertise.  By providing specifiers with clarification of the environmental specifics of our products, it is the foundation for conscientious building practice. With sustainability and environmental impact being high on the news agenda, it is important that manufacturers and suppliers demonstrate how they propose to achieve their targets.”

Another stand out feature is the downloadable version of Marley Eternit’s Green Guide to Roofing. The guide gives best-practice environmental advice to manufacturers, merchants and roofing contractors and demonstrates the methodology behind the Building Research Establishment’s (BRE’s) Environmental Assessment Method – the industry benchmark for ‘green’ performance.

Sarah Hanlon concludes:

“Marley Eternit is committed to manufacturing sustainable building products and is the first in the industry to have our Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data independently verified by the BRE.  Through this website we not only aim to showcase our environmental credibility, but also promote good practice throughout the industry. We hope that the new website will act as a guideline for the industry to follow.”
