New particle size and shape analyser to be shown for first time in Germany

Malvern Instruments' new Sysmex FPIA-2100 particle size and shape analyser will make its first appearance in Germany at Powtech in Nuremberg in March 2001 and will be exhibited together with the company's Mastersizer, Spraytec, Zetasizer and Insitec systems.

The FPIA-2100 is described as a revolutionary new system for the fully automated measurement of both particle size and shape. It provides the ability to measure both these parameters and is claimed to represent a real breakthrough for the many applications where shape as well as size affects the behaviour of particulate materials.

New for the Mastersizer 2000, Malvern's widely used laser diffraction analyser, is the Hydro 2000 Micro Precision Sample Dispersion Unit, which allows the precise sampling of small quantities of materials. Not only does this enable scarce or valuable samples to be preserved, but the use of just 20ml of dispersant allows considerable savings in both solvent consumption and disposal costs.

New for Zetasizer systems is M3 (Mixed Mode Measurement), described as an innovative technique for measuring zeta potential, which is said to give unprecedented accuracy and resolution. This has been introduced in the latest version 1.51 software for the Zetasizer systems, which are used to measure zeta potential and particle size in the nanometer size ranges, with particular applications in understanding and controlling the stability of dispersions.
