Kiln Wins US Design Award

The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design has conferred its prestigious GOOD DESIGN AWARD (tm) 2003 on the XLNt sanitaryware tunnel kiln manufactured by Sacmi Forni.

The GOOD DESIGN AWARD, established in Chicago in 1950 by Edgar Kaufmann, is said to be one of the oldest and most important design accolades and in the past has seen the participation of names such as Eero Saarinen, Alexander Girard, George Nelson, Florence Knoll, Henry Bretoia, Finn Juhl and Russell Wright.

For each project presented, the jury evaluates innovative design, shape, materials chosen, the concepts conveyed, the adopted manufacturing criteria and functionality.

The XLNt kiln is the result of a partnership between the Sacmi Forni technical office and the famous designer Isao Hosoe, with whom Sacmi won another prize in 1998 - the ADI Compasso D'Oro - for its single-layer FMP roller kiln.

In 2003, the XLNt kiln was chosen from among projects selected by the Association of Industrial Design and now appears in the ADI Design Index 2003, a book which catalogues, year by year, the best of Italian design.
