KIG Ceramic Nears 50% in Exports

Malaysian news agency Bernama reports that KIG Ceramic Industry Sdn Bhd - the company with the largest ceramic roofing production capacity in Malaysia - is now exporting 45% of its products to markets in Taiwan, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines. The company's Director/Senior manager Lee Foo Lang said that the remaining 55% of its products, mainly clay roofing tiles, were used in Malaysia.

"KIG Ceramic is currently producing 800,000 pieces per month on one line, about a third of its capacity of 2.4 million pieces per month on three lines," Lee said when interviewed by the Sarawak Industrial Bulletin.

To make its products more competitive in the market, KIG Ceramic has sought research and development from China and Taiwan. It also collaborated with members of the KIG Group in China and Indonesia for their expertise, added Lee.

Apart from its factory in Sarawak, the company has three plants in China and two in Indonesia. Lee said the company was considered the biggest ceramic roof tile producer in China with an investment of about RM 80 million. The prospects for the ceramic industry in Sarawak were good as the market for ceramic roofing tiles, floor tiles and wall tiles was growing. With assistance from the state government - in terms of tax breaks - and the lower costs of ball clay, Lee said consumers would benefit from competitively priced quality products.
