KEMET To Begin Manufacturing in China

KEMET Corporation (Greenville, SC, USA) said on 20 January 2003 that it would begin manufacturing operations in PR China during the current year. This development results from the completion of a process initiated in 2002 of evaluating potential plant sites and product lines for manufacturing in PRC. To support this initiative, Kirk Shockley has been appointed to a newly created position, Director of Operations, PRC. Mr Shockley has been with KEMET for 20 years in various management positions in tantalum, ceramic and solid aluminium manufacturing.

David Maguire - the company's Chairman and CEO - stated: "KEMET's strong leadership position in the capacitor industry is built on our established foundation of quality, delivery and being 'easy-to-buy-from'. A quarter of our current revenue is generated in Asia, and a long-term trend of many of our European and North American based customers is migrating manufacturing operations to Asia, in particular China.

"In addition, KEMET is building strong relationships with emerging global leaders in electronics manufacturing based in Asia. During the past year, we have had extensive conversations with customers to understand how KEMET can best support their Asian operations. Today's announcement is a continuation of our easy-to-buy-from philosophy, which will help us maintain and enhance our leadership position in the capacitor industry."

KEMET claims provision of industry leading, high performance capacitor solutions, including what it calls the world's most complete line of surface-mount capacitor technologies across tantalum, ceramic and solid aluminium dielectrics.
