Name Change for Hounsfield Test Equipment

From 1 January 2004, Hounsfield Test Equipment (Redhill, Surrey, England) will trade under the name of its American parent company, Tinius Olsen. Hounsfield was first taken over by Tinius Olsen in 1996.

"Obviously with such a well-recognised brand as Hounsfield, we want to give people as much notice as possible of the name change," said Hounsfield's Sales and Marketing Director, Martin Wheeler. "The Hounsfield name will disappear but as Tinius Olsen we will still be trading and offering the same quality of service and products that people have come to expect from us".

American investment in the company since 1996 has enabled it to fully exploit its R&D facilities at Redhill, brining many technologically advanced products to the marketplace and building its reputation for high quality equipment. This, together with the strategy of minimising downtime for customers by using qualified personnel to service equipment during calibration visits, has seen the fortunes of the company grow, despite some difficult market conditions.

R&D will continue in the UK and staffing levels will remain the same.

The main reason for the change, explained the company, is to simplify branding in markets such as the Far East where the two names appear side by side. Ordering will also be easier for customers operating on both sides of the Atlantic who have, until now, bought from Tinius Olsen in North America and Hounsfield in Europe. "As well as simplified branding, the changes will mean UK and European customers will have better access to the products made in the USA and the Americans can obtain the models and equipment developed here," added Martin Wheeler.
