GDLS-C Provides $39.5 Million Order to DEW for Stryker Armour

DEW Engineering and Development ULC, with headquarters in Ottawa, Canada and additional manufacturing facilities in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada recently received a $39.5 million purchase order from General Dynamics Land Systems Canada (GDLS-C) to provide ceramic composite hull armour kits for 352 Stryker armoured vehicles.

Since 2003, DEW has been the exclusive supplier of the ceramic composite armour system for the United States Stryker programme. Deliveries for the GDLS-C orders are expected to start in February 2010.

The Stryker family of vehicles is a core combat component of the US Army's commitment to both Iraq and Afghanistan, with over 3,000 vehicles currently in service. The hull armour kit produced by DEW is a key component of the Stryker survivability package and has responded extremely well under operational conditions, reports the company.

DEW has been designing and manufacturing advanced armour systems since 1994. With an in-house ballistic range and close proximity to mine blast facilities, DEW works with OEMs to develop survivability solutions that optimise protection, cost and weight.
