£1 Million Capital Investment Supports Growth for GCM

Global Ceramic Materials Ltd (Milton, Stoke-on-Trent, England) has invested over £1 million recently to extend its scope of supply and meet the increasing demands of its growing customer base.

GCM, as part of GSB in Holland - the world's foremost producer of bone ash - is focused on supplying high quality raw materials and prepared body for producers of fine bone china and other whitewares.

Whilst maintaining its support of the local industry, the company has a clear strategy to further expand its export business, which currently represents some 70% of turnover. This compares to just 20% a decade ago.

The company has recently commissioned a £1 million spray drying facility at its Milton site in Stoke-on-Trent. This is the latest phase in an ongoing expansion programme to meet the requirements of the tableware industry world-wide.

The new facility produces spray dried granulate for isostatic pressing of flatware, or for reconstituting back into conventional body for slip casting or roller making.

Commenting on the new facility, David Slinn, Technical Sales Manager of Global Ceramic Materials, said: "The expansion represents a major investment in the company's future and demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the ceramic industry both at home and abroad".

GCM added that the introduction of self-produced granulate bodies further enhanced the company's 'total quality process' where products are technically controlled from raw bones to the finished prepared body, a factor claimed to be unique amongst suppliers of bone ash and bone china body.

The 9,000 tonnes per annum spray dryer was designed and built by German manufacturer Dorst in close collaboration with GCM's own project engineers.
