Morgan Advanced Ceramics Teams Up with Ford

Morgan Advanced Ceramics (MAC) and Ford Motor Company have teamed up to provide a new coating technology for paint bell cup manufacturers.

Made of either aluminium or titanium, a paint bell cup is the replacement component of the rotary atomiser that particulates the paint into a very fine spray, through the high speeds of the turbine-driven bell.

This Ford-patented Silicon Doped Amorphous Carbon Surface Coating technology extends the life of the paint bell cup, improves production uniformity and product quality and reduces maintenance costs.

Ford Motor Company has licensed MAC to provide the technology to paint bell cup manufacturers. Together, MAC and Ford have enhanced the processing, coating and application of this new technology.

Recent advances in paint rotary bell atomisers - such as high solid metallic paint technologies and the introduction of mica flakes to achieve brighter colours - have augmented bell cup wear. This new patented coating gives paint cup bell an indefinite life by providing a surface coating of near-diamond hardness with protection against highly aggressive and abrasive materials.
