ACerS Meeting & Expo for 2004

The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) says that planning for its 2004 Annual Meeting Technical Program is in progress. The event will take place in Indianapolis, IN, USA from 18-21 April 2004. To facilitate effective organisation and to provide advance notice to the marketplace about the technical program, the Meetings Committee has implemented the following changes to the programming model.

The technical program will be classified into four major categories:

• Honorary and/or retrospective symposia - these are intended to be one-time programs that cover a body of work relevant to a key researcher in the field of ceramics or related materials or that historically document a technology that is poised to move into a new era.

• Focused topical symposia - these will be focused programs on research that is relevant to current or future technologies and materials. Presentations within these programs will be of the newest state-of-the-art research, technology and applications of the program subject.

• General symposia - intended to provide a venue for research updates on traditional topics covered by ACerS.

• Division programs - ACerS is committed to providing a venue for its member constituencies to meet and discuss topics of importance to them.

The Meetings Committee would like to support symposia in the 2004 program that fall within the broad topical areas listed below. Symposia on other topics will also be considered.

• Nanomaterials/Nanotechnology
• Bioengineering
• Energy Conversion
• Integration of Ceramics
• Optoelectronic Materials
• Advances in Ceramic Science
• Mechanical Properties of Functional Materials
• Coatings

The technical program will be finalised and distributed to the membership at the 2003 Annual Meeting and Exposition.
