Centorr Sells Vacuum/Controlled Atmosphere Hot Press for Advanced Ceramics/Metals

Centorr Vacuum Industries Inc (Nashua, NH, USA) has announced the manufacture and delivery of a new multi-purpose, high temperature vacuum hot press with interchangeable metallic and graphite hot zones.

The hot press can operate in vacuum, partial pressures as well as positive pressures of inert gas. It is rated for operation to 1400°C and a force of 60 tons and is designed to press 4in diameter compacts. The unit is fitted with interchangeable press platens of graphite and molybdenum to allow for diffusion bonding operation of powder compaction.

Temperature control is handled by a Honeywell DCP-550 programmable controller, with both force control and position using UDC-3300 controllers for independent profiles.

The system is capable of high vacuum operation using a Varian Diffusion pump and a mechanical pumping system.

Centorr said that this unique system with interchangeable hot zone design was ideal for R&D programs where high temperature material compatibility was required.
