Wienerberger Acquires Bockhorner Klinker in Germany

Wienerberger AG (Vienna, Austria) is continuing to expand its position in the facing brick and clay paver markets in Northern Germany with the acquisition of Bockhorner Klinker GmbH. This transaction covers the Bockhorner sales company roughly 40km north of Oldenburg as well as the production sites in Bockhorn, Borgstede, Bramloge and Hagen (Lower Saxony). A further two plants in Jemgum and Hambergen are leased.

The production capacity of all six locations totals 110 million WF (= standard format for facing bricks). "The name Bockhorner stands for top product quality in the area of facing bricks and clay pavers. This acquisition will expand our product line to include an established regional brand - and also allow us to strengthen our market position over the long-term and further expand our offering for customers on the key North German market," explained Heimo Scheuch, member of the Managing Board of Wienerberger AG with responsibility for North-West Europe and Germany. The parties have agreed not to disclose any information on the purchase price for this transaction.

Bockhorner Klinker GmbH was founded in 1908 and has a long tradition of brick production in North Friesland. The company will generate revenues of approximately €14 million in 2007. Production is focused on high-quality facing bricks and clay pavers, which have an excellent reputation with planners, architects and masons. "The long and successful tradition of this company and its well-known name are the reasons for our decision to continue the marketing of these products by the Bockhorner sales company," added Heimo Scheuch in conclusion. The acquisition represents part of the Wienerberger bolt-on programme for 2007, which was expected to cover €300 million of growth investments.
