Betta Sanitaryware Expands Capacity Substantially

The well established partnership between Sacmi Whiteware (Imola, MO, Italy) and the South African ceramic company Betta Sanitaryware - which is part of the Ceramic Industries Group - has once again proved a success. Thanks to new equipment supply, Betta's production capacity will rise from 1 million pieces per year to 1.5 million pieces per year as from February 2005, with more than 160 workers now involved in production.

The expansion in progress includes the installation of a third STK 260/78 tunnel kiln, an ALS150 casting machine for the production of wash basins and pedestals, an AVE040 casting machine for the production of WCs with stick-on rim and two AVM150 casting machines for the production of WCs with stick-on rim (robotised demoulding and sticking operations).

For the glazing stage, Betta Sanitaryware has chosen the robotised glazing line and two robotised siphon glazing machines made by Gaiotto. This decision clearly demonstrates Betta's belief in the advantages of using automatic high pressure casting machines and robotised glazing systems.

With this latest investment, Betta - whose production output is 95% made using high pressure casting and 95% glazed using glazing robots - aims to consolidate its position as leader in the South African market. With this new supply, Betta's plant will be equipped with a total of 8 AVE casting machines, 6 ALS casting machines, 4 AVM casting machines, 5 glazing robots, 3 robotised siphon glazing machines and 3 tunnel kilns.
