European Ceramic Arts Festival

The commune of St Quentin-la-Poterie (Gard, France) is organising a European ceramic event to be held from 21-25 July 2004 - the 1st European Ceramic Arts Festival - in the heart of the town that boasts a long tradition of ceramic creativity.

In selecting the artists who are to participate in the competition, the Cultural Office of St Quentin-la-Poterie wants to open the festival to all countries of Europe. The aim is to showcase the new face of ceramic art in Europe by placing the spotlight on emerging, professional ceramic artists who have been operating commercially for less than 10 years, regardless of age.

The chosen approach has been to organise a competition that welcomes Europe-based ceramic artists whose work exploits new avenues of creativity with long-term appeal for the future and whose creations feature the use of special techniques. Three of the 25 ceramic artists selected by a jury of experts will receive awards at the competition. All will participate in the 'New European Ceramics Exhibition' which is to be held from 21 July to 29 August 2004.

Those interested in further information should e-mail the town's Cultural Office at: off.cult.stqpoterie@free.fr
