State of the Art in Advanced Ceramics

A one-day symposium focusing on the state of the art in advanced ceramics is one of 16 symposia which make up 'Materials Congress 2004', to be held in London, England from 30 March to 1 April 2004. The 'Processing and Characterisation of Advanced Ceramics' symposium will feature a range of talks covering key issues in this field, including nanostructured ceramics, fuel cells, ceramic foams, thin films, modelling, extrusion and measuring ceramic toughness.

Keynote speakers at the symposium will be S Blackburn (University of Birmingham) on 'New Process or Old Process' and Roger Morrell (NPL Materials Centre, Teddington, Middx) on 'Fracture Toughness - Internationally Agreed Good Practice'.

Materials Congress 2004 will be supported by a full programme of plenary lectures, poster sessions, industry events, exhibitions, special events for teachers and technicians and social events.

This major event in the materials calendar is being held in Carlton House Terrace in London, using the HQ of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining and neighbouring buildings, an unusual and unique London venue which the organisers say proved hugely successful with delegates at the last congress in 2002.

The event this year is sponsored by EPSRC, the Institute of Physics and the Royal Society of Chemistry and is supported by the Federation of European Materials Societies.
