Giant Ceramic Slab Production Announced

The Mirage ceramic plant in Pavullo in Italy has taken technological evolution a stage further and has come up with an innovative product known as 'Ceramic Granite'. This huge slab - measuring 130cm x 180cm x 3cm thick - is described as a world first, as is the press specially designed to produce it.

The press is question is a high tonnage Sacmi PH 7200, some of which have been assembled to meet highly specific needs. Each ceramic slab weighs 200kg. Firing temperatures exceed 1200°C and the entire firing cycle lasts 5 hours and 30 minutes. Slab measurements, the result of several years' research, faithfully both the size and thickness of natural stone and all its characteristics. These include, for example, random full-body veining.

At Mirage, the special press is used in conjunction with a complete plant of ultra-modern design.
