Showcase continues successful run

Ceramic Showcase 2001, the fifth in the series of exhibitions featuring the latest offerings from small, specialist and niche pottery producers, has just concluded its week-long run in Stoke-on-Trent.

Early figures indicate that attendance levels and business actually written during the show were broadly in line with last year's event. Previous trends show that further sales should continue to result in the months following the end of the event.

One notable success this year, which reverses the usual pattern associated with this type of ware, is an order said to be valued at £200,000 taken by just one of the 40 or so exhibitors. This particular company won the contract to provide cups and saucers over a year-long period for export to the Korean market.

Other encouraging signs were also evident. Peggy Davies Ceramics, already renowned world-wide for its highly collectable range of models and figurines, took the opportunity to launch its range of small 'Face Pots'. By the end of the show, the company had already taken orders worth 12,000 and had signed on over 20 new retail outlets for the innovative and fun designs.

Companies are said to already be signing up for participation at next year's event. The show traditionally coincides with the Spring Fair Birmingham and The Stoke Show, the exhibition which showcases the volume prestige manufacturers Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Spode and Royal Worcester.
