The Pottery Mechanics Institute (PMI) Trust Fund


Entries for the Industrial Award are now invited from persons resident in the United Kingdom and completed application forms must be submitted by 28th MAY 2004.

Applications involve submitting a short paper which firstly must make the applicant's case for receiving the award, secondly which details achievements in their work and, finally, details plans for use of the prize money which forms part of the award.

The judges will look for achievement, innovation, leadership skills, teamwork, improved productivity/efficiency and commercial advantages in the context of boosting the British Ceramic Industry in the future.

The PMI Industrial Award is open to individual applications only, although contributions can aspects which have entailed project or teamwork. The applicant must have demonstrated some significant achievement in their work, with benefit to the employing company.

• The Industrial Award has been awarded in previous years for innovative ceramic
work.

• This work has demonstrably offered commercial advantages to the employers.

• The broadening of knowledge in the ceramic sphere has been demonstrated.

• Past winners have gained opportunities for researching the manufacturing
methods and techniques used for similar products, both in the UK and overseas.

• As well as visiting various manufacturers, the winner can grow both in terms
of industrial experience and personal confidence.

CRITERIA FOR THE 2004 INDUSTRIAL TRAVEL BURSARY AWARD, WORTH UP TO £2,000, ARE:

• Age limit: 35 years
• Recommendation is to be submitted or endorsed by the applicant's employer.
• A significant contribution to the application of ceramic science/engineering in the
manufacturing and industrial environment is to be demonstrated.
• Consideration will be given to individual efforts, but these may include project or teamwork.

Winning this award is a valuable addition to the candidate's work portfolio. The winner is also invited to make an oral presentation at the following year's Annual Ceramic Convention of The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining.
