Wienerberger Continues Expansion in Poland

Wienerberger AG (Vienna, Austria) has acquired the Cermegad and Zeslawice brick plants from Ploegsteert International NV and Vandersanden Steenfabrieken NV. These two facilities are located in Krakow in southern Poland and generated combined revenues of 6.7 million euro in 2005 with a total capacity of 130 million brick units. The transaction was completed on 1 February 2006 following approval by the cartel authorities.

After the takeover of these two plants, Wienerberger now has four facilities for the production of hollow bricks in southern Poland, an important sales region that was previously supplied from the plants in Czestochowa and Kupno. The goal is to integrate these activities quickly into the existing organisation and then to improve the quality of products and profitability and also realise synergies in administration and sales. Wienerberger now operates a total of 18 brick and roof tile plants in Poland.

Member of the Managing Board Johann Windisch said: "The approval of this transaction will allow us to further expand our broad-based presence and also meet the demand for our high-quality POROTHERM hollow bricks throughout Poland from local production facilities. This acquisition is one example of our many profitable bolt-on projects, which are planned to total roughly 250 million euro during the coming year."
