Microwave Advance from Linn

Linn High Therm GmbH (Haan, Germany) has announced the successful completion of two years of development and testing phases for its new 5.8GHz magnetron. The development and testing of the microwave generator on the basis of the magnetron technology for this frequency was carried out together with a well known Japanese electronics company.

Magnetrons of different development stages have been successfully used in laboratories and smaller production plants over the past 18 months. Linn said that it had been possible to improve the power and endurance of the magnetrons and to reduce the production costs as a result of this experience.

The microwave power of a magnetron is 750W. The use of the microwave frequency at 5.8GHz is mainly seen in the heating of small/thin parts and suchlike materials, which slave badly to microwaves. These parts cannot be heated effectively with normal, lower microwave frequencies and this is where the 5.8GHz frequency has clear advantages.

The new magnetrons have been developed in such a way that they can be easily integrated into existing production lines of both industrial and laboratory microwaves.
