Ceramics Master Class 2002

A Masters degree at Staffordshire University is producing a new generation of exciting designers for the ceramic industry.

Amongst these, graduate Ellie Attrill has already landed a job with ambitious Potteries based company Royale Stratford, which manufactures an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional giftware.

Ellie has completed her MA in Ceramic Design, a pioneering Staffordshire University course which encourages students to develop their business acumen as well as their design skills. She is now set to work as a full-time designer for Royale Stratford after joining the company on a work placement.

David Sanderson, the course leader, said that graduates from the MA course are sought after because they are encouraged to combine their ability to create beautiful designs with a strong commercial sensibility. The philosophy of the course is to make students aware of the need to create ideas and concepts which are new and exciting but, at the same time, are going to succeed in a highly competitive marketplace, explained David.

The MA Ceramic Design Graduate Show will be open to the general public at the University's Pavilion Restaurant in College Road, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire until 28 February - open from 10am to 5pm.
