Appointment in PR China for Ceramics, Marble & Stone

The 7th Ceramics, Marble, Stone & Technology China Exhibition will take place in Shanghai, PR China from 21-24 May 2002. As of this year, it will be organised by S.A.L.A., already co-organiser of Tecnargilla, the ceramic supplies show held every three years in Rimini, Italy.

The China event will bring together manufacturers of machinery, equipment, technology and finished products in the ceramic, marble and natural stone sectors to provide a comprehensive showcase of the entire production process.

China is now the world's largest manufacturer of ceramic tiles (1.6 billion square metres per year) and sanitaryware (54 million pieces per year) according to S.A.L.A. With exports still extremely low, however, it also the world's largest consumer of ceramic products.

The tile sector takes in, it is estimated, some 2,500 companies - a very large number of which are still at an artisan stage. Only 10% approximately have what could be described as a medium-level industrial production.

The exhibit space this year is planned at 11,000 square metres gross and the event will be held as part of a simultaneous larger multi-sector exhibition devoted to building, divided into 4 sections:

• International Building & Construction China
• Kitchen & Bath
• Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning & Domo
• Window, Door & Security

It will be held in the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
