Hosokawa Micron Offers Intelligent Milling Systems

Hosokawa Micron Ltd (Runcorn, Cheshire, England) says that its new IntelliMill system offers improved batch consistency, energy cost savings, wastage reduction and maximum throughput for production plant managers looking to improve product quality and increase profit levels.

This is described as an intelligent milling system that measures particle size distribution and automatically adjusts its milling parameters to give improved batch consistency and batch-to-batch comparability along with optimum mill performance. It is a result of collaboration between Malvern Instruments Process Systems and Hosokawa Micron.

The integrated system uses Insitec dry powder, on-line particle size analysis technology from Malvern Process Systems (a division of Malvern Instruments Ltd), Hosokawa's air classifier mills and air jet mills with advanced process control systems for intelligent control of plant operations.

The company adds that system flexibility through a range of mill and Insitec particle size analysis equipment variants makes IntelliMill systems suitable for both bulk and multi-product batch production of dry powders.

For production managers responsible for multi-grade production, the IntelliMill offers accurate recipe control, batch consistency/comparability and smooth transition from batch to batch with minimal operator intervention and elimination of out-of-specification product with associated cost savings.

Cruise Control operation with multi-input/multi-output controller allows automatic control and optimisation of the mill. A dial-in product specification facility means that the mill will automatically change set points to achieve product specification and product optimisation even eliminating steady state problems such as overgrinding, without manual input.

The IntelliMill system is designed for stand alone operation or with a wide range of PLC comms options available for integration with company ERP systems with CIP/SIP and intrinsically safe variants are available to suit individual customer requirements.
