Vietnamese Companies' Further Plans for Ceramic Industry Despite Government Holding Back

Although oversupply has reportedly led to the Ministry of Construction in Vietnam declining to invest further in the ceramic and granite tile sector until 2005, individual companies continue to develop their activities.

In one example, according to VNS, The My Duc Ceramics Tiles Joint Venture - whose manufacturing is based in Tan Thanh in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province - has exported its first 30 containers of tiles this year, worth US$135,000, to Australia, Republic of Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

The company's export markets, spanning Asia, Europe, America and the Middle East, include the UK, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, the USA, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong.

In other sectors, it is reported by VNS that Viet Tri Ceramic Co (Phu Tho Province) is planning a major investment this year in UK and Italian manufactured production lines and technology aimed at enhancing capacity, while a new brick production plant has begun operation in Dung Quat Industrial Park in the Central province of Quang Ngai's Binh Son District.
