Strike Hits Gujarati Ceramic Producers
Last week saw a widespread strike hitting the large number of ceramic factories in Morbi, Gujarat, the well known Indian Ceramic Cluster town which is home to numerous plants producing tiles, sanitaryware and other ceramic goods.
The strike was reported to be a reaction to a scuffle which had taken place in Morbi during the previous week between excise officials and labourers. This itself resulted from feelings running high at the perceived high-handedness of excise officials.
In all, one source estimates that company losses are running at close to Rs 15 crores (around £1.95 million) daily.
